After quickly becoming a fan of An Hour A Week? Podcast, Bob Blakey decided to try podcasting himself. Bob began producing Akela’s Adventure Podcast to help new scout leaders, like himself, find resources, tells stories of their experiences and to discuss ways to improve on being scout leaders. Akela’s Adventure was active from August 2006 through November 2007

As of 2007, Bob held the position of Assistant Cubmaster and Den Leader for Pack 510 out of Belton, Missouri. Although he only began his scouting journey in June of 2006, he has amassed so much knowledge by aligning himself with experienced scouters, reading everything he can about scouting and participating in as many scouting events as he can.

Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” This is a quote from the famous carmaker, Henry Ford. All of the dens come together to form the beginning of our pack. Keeping together at our monthly pack meeting is progress. Working together in Cub Scouting is surely a success story of which you can have a great part. Let’s remember this in the coming months.

Cubmaster Minute:
As we think about gathering around the campfire, enjoying a good meal
together, and especially enjoying one another’s company, let’s not
forget those who do not have the same good fortune as we have. Is it
because they aren’t as good as we are? NO! Is it because they don’t
have the material wealth it takes to be in Scouting? Probably not. Or
is it maybe that they just don’t know about the wonderful times
Scouting offers? Most probably. Maybe we need to reach out a hand and
invite them to join us. So as we leave tonight, let’s commit ourselves
to remember the good times we have together and to go find someone
else and invite him to join us in the fun we have.

We take our bodies and good health pretty much for granted when we are
well, strong, and feeling good. But when our health is not up to its
best, then we possibly have not done our best to take care of
ourselves by practicing good health habits and eating the proper
foods. Each one of us needs to be strong and healthy to be able to
contribute to our family, community and nation as strong citizens.

Cubmaster Minute:
Detectives are trained to look for things that the average person might not notice. They need to practice the skills they learn. They are always noticing the smallest details.

We can be detectives, too. We can start noticing the little things about people. The good things about them. The longer you practice looking for the good in people, the easier it becomes to find it. When you constantly look for the good in your parents, brothers, sisters, friends and neighbors the good things about you are easier for them to see. Another great thing that happens when you work at being a “good” detective is that you become happier! Finding the good in others makes us better people.
