The Cub Scouts of Pack 68 and the Boy Scouts of Troop 68 held a Scouting Open House on April 18, 2011. Here is a look at what they did during it, including checking out the fire department’s ladder truck.

What does your pack or troop do for its open houses?

MSPP #107: Cub Scout Firehall Visit. - May 19, 2011

The Cub Scouts of Pack 68 had a special field trip on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Two members of the local volunteer fire department gave the boys a tour of the firehall and of the trucks used by the fireman. The Scouts were able to see some of the equipment used by the men. After the tour, the boys received an awesome treat when they were allowed to sit in the firetrucks and see what it is like behind the steering wheel of these large trucks. They enjoyed themselves, and I am sure this is one day they will remember for a long time.

Has your Cub Scout Pack ever done something like this?

MSPP #106: Dakota’s Eagle Slideshow - April 7, 2011

Dakota and I sat down for the first time to plan the slideshow nearly a month ago. He is the first Scout who joined the troop after I switched to digital photography, so I have a lot of photos of him through the seven years he has been a member of the troop. Usually, I only had 200-300 photos of a Scout to sort through. I had over 900 pictures of Dakota. The two of us looked through them and began eliminating pictures. Dakota finally got it down to about 90 pictures. He choose three songs to play within the show, and surprised me with his choices. The finished video came to around ten minutes.

Let me know what you think about it.

MSPP #105: Eagle Cave, Part 3 - March 24, 2011

In 1997, Melrose Boy Scout Troop 68 spent a weekend at Eagle Cave in Wisconsin. The boys had a great time exploring every nook and cranny within the cave, as you saw in the first video. Saturday evening, the staff invited everyone to the dining hall.  Several adults were asked to come forward and assist with a few musical numbers as seen in the second video.

In this, the third and final video from the trip, the Boy Scouts take center stage at the dining hall as they have fun being silly. Then it is time to choose the “King Snorer” among the adult leaders.  (How many of you could qualify to win this contest?)

Thanks for watching Melrose Scout Productions Podcast.

MSPP #104: Cub Scout Pack 68, A Year in Review - March 10, 2011

Cub Scout Pack 68 of Melrose will be holding its Blue and Gold Banquet later this month. To provide a little entertainment during the evening I have volunteered to produce a slideshow of the pictures I have taken when I attended their den meetings and the Pinewood Derby. This slideshow is being sneak previewed for the Melrose Scout Productions Podcast.

How many of you have done something like this for your Pack meetings or Blue and Gold Banquets? How did your audience and the Cub Scouts like it?

MSPP #103: Eagle Cave, Part 2 - February 3, 2011

In 1997, Melrose Boy Scout Troop 68 spent a weekend at Eagle Cave in Wisconsin. The boys had a great time exploring every nook and cranny within the cave, as you saw in the last video. Saturday evening, the staff invited everyone to the dining hall for a slideshow and a fun filled program. During that program, several adults were asked to come forward and assist with a few musical numbers. Two of those leaders happen to be from Troop 68. When you are an adult leader you sometimes have to do things you normally would not do, all in the name of fun for the boys. This video of the Melrose Scout Productions Podcast features the silly things these adult leaders did that night in Wisconsin.

This is the second of a three part series of the troop’s trip to Eagle Cave.

MSPP #102: Eagle Cave, Part 1 - January 20, 2011

A long time ago (1997, to be exact) in a land far, far away (somewhere in the wilds of Wisconsin) a great adventure took place. The Boy Scouts of Melrose Troop 68 visited a location known as Eagle cave. They spent the weekend crawling, exploring, and getting pretty dirty as they found all the tunnels and crevices within the cave. In other words, they had a great time. This video will give you a small sample of the Scouts’ adventure at Eagle Cave.

This is the first of a three part series of the 1997 trip to the cave.

MSPP #101: Leaders Of Scouting, Last Thoughts - January 6, 2011

In 1989, five women who were involved with the Scouting program in Melrose, met at the local community access television studio to do a talk show about Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting in Melrose. The show was titled The Women Of Scouting. It was broadcast several times over the years, usually during Boy Scout anniversary week in the first part of February. This program has been broken down into five parts for use on this podcast.

In this final part of the show, Ann B., Clara N., Patty D., and Betty S., share their memories and feelings about the Scouting program, and what it has meant to them, their boys, and their families.
