Chris just posted a Qik video asking with all this renewed energy in the BSA, how do YOU keep from it gobbling up your "real" life time??
The video is here: http://qik.com/video/4273664 if you want to check it out.

I myself, have no good answer for this….. considering I work for the BSA, it's not so much a big deal about separating the two, but as for keeping my family life from being consumed…that is a problem, ask my boys (strange thing is the girls don't seem to care).
The one thing I try to do, is make the most of the days that there ISN'T any scout events. Also, to try to remember to do OTHER things that I enjoy doing (there are a few, believe it or not).
I guess I'm just not a very good person to answer this question.

I know what is meant by "Scouting Life vs. Real life".. HOWEVER…
I have said it before.. and I will say it again. There really is no separation. Meaning we act the way we act all the time.. not just in tan.
Now addressing the issue of "Scout time" and "Real time"?? I think it is what it is. We have annual plans and you pick and choose what is important to you. In my unit we camp 11 times a year. No exceptions. My wife knows that the boys and I will be out in woods at least 29 nights this year. She knows and understands this because she is involved as a Troop committee member.
Again.. you will support and participate in what is important to you.
Family time is family time.. Troop time is Troop time.
Now having said all of this… let me tell what I find is the real issue. Scouters wearing too many hats. The only time I EVER hear the argument of Scout life vs. Real life is from Scouters that wear too many hats. Scouters that sit on the District committee, Round table activities, Unit responsibilities, Camping committees, Jamboree, Counselors, etc.
And yes until last year.. I was one of them. And once hung up the extra hats and focused on what was most important to me… my unit. My time and energy became a lot more manageable.
So what's the answer? I have no idea other than to offer a few suggestions. Focus on what's important, hang up a few hats, and remember that there are 24 hours in every day… YOU get to choose how to spend it.
Have a Great Scouting Day!

OK.. and now I actually listened/watched Chris's video..
Its about the energy.. and that reinforces my argument of a lack of separation between the various parts of my life.
Being Trustworthy and Loyal at work are not unique to being a Scouter.
Developing the energy that I feel, not only as a Scouter in 2010 but a Scoutmaster that is going to National Jamboree.. you can imagine that I am pumped beyond belief! How do I control it.. I don't. I let it all out and let the world know I am a Scouter and part of this great organization.
Have a Great Scouting Year!!
