Great show Chris!
Double-dipping: The only ones I'm specifically aware of are in Webelos. For Arrow of Light items #4 (Participate in a Boy Scout outdoor activity) and #5 (participate in a Webelos overnighter or day hike) it specifically says that if the boy already did these items as a Webelos for the Outdoorsman Activity Badge, it cannot be counted for AOL (has to be done a second time). Also there are several Webelos Activity Badges that one of the requirements says to earn a beltloop and if the beltloop was already earned before becoming a Webelos then it doesn't count and has to be earned a second time.

Great show Chris!!!
My vote on the Innovation Engine….I like to hear 1 or 2. It almost feels like we know more about what's going on. It's also a good conversation starter most times.

I check the Inno Engine myself from time to time. I like hearing your opinions on them.
I remember wanting to get the cub scout ring as child. Since the BS ring is in clearance I guess that's a by gone era.
I have used the Trax series and highly recommend to our den leaders to use them if not using Packmaster .net.

Great episode, Chris. And don't apologize for calling me "dude" – I'm from southern California, so it's like totally bueno, dude!
You talked about a "Scouting Urban Legend" forum. Have you done that yet?

I'm starting to feel stressed out in the chatroom. Any chance of us hiring that masseuse instead of the folks in Irving?

Thanks Chris for the advice. I am jeff from the show with the problem parents.
TRAX: i have used the trax spreadsheets since being a tiger leader and have suggested them to subsequent leaders in the pack. my only thing to say is try to get advancement copies if your unit is small and records arent kept through an advancement chair. we had a leader become more interested in his son's baseball team last year and couldnt finalize awards without a fiasco of going through every achievement completed.
Double-dipping: my only observation would be does the scout know he is earning something or working towards a requirement when double-dipping? or is this someone trying to see how much more bling they can get on the shirt or vest?

Heck, when the kids were younger, some of them didn't even know they were earning the FIRST requirement. Sometimes the "game" part of Scouting comes across more than the "purpose" I think.
But your point is valid. Checking off boxes in a book is really not what Scouting is about. But if getting an extra patch or award keeps a boy excited about the program, then I'm all for it.

Great show as usual. Sorry I missed the live version. Our Pack is almost 2/3 through our summertime activities and the weather has played havoc with July's events. Our June Pack Family Campout had over 50 people attend, and we had close to 30 scouts attend the Day Camp in June. Our July 4th parade was rained out on Saturday and the rescheduled Sunday parade only saw 5 scouts attend. We are going to try to have a hike before the end of the month to help with the July numbers. August we will have a pool party and a Pack Picnic with our first Cubmobile derby.
We schedule the summertime events in May, but try to remain flexible so the scouts get the best bang for their buck.

On show #187 the American Heritage Girls I did find some info & their program and has merit badges & law & oath mirrors BSA. The leaders have a more christian strigant guidelines as well as the charter org. I was impressed and am now helping start one in our area. My question is how much is BSA planning to work with them & how. Anybody know ?

I don't think that's been laid out yet but I can see it being very little (basically National co-signed a letter saying "We like you." and that's it), to very progressive (AHG are having trouble setting up councils and districts, perhaps we will see an AHG professional who works for AHG but is stationed at each BSA council/district so that some small amount of structure is there to help the AHG people get councils and districts started).

Chris – took your advice regarding personalities with problem parents in our pack.
i had to be away for 3 weeks due to 3 family emergencies. while i was finding out about my brother being in ICU due to a medicine screw up with his doctor which lead to an accidental overdose (and a chance of him dying), my wife was on another phone line finding out that her 99 yr old grandmother (2 months shy of 100) was just admitted into ICU and may not make it through the weekend. we dealt with those issues and then my other brother ended up having surgery and in the hospital for a bit. needless to say scouting was not at the forefront of my priorities for that time.
when they complained and said that i didn't return an email in a timely manner (while i was away with family) -and that they didn't want to be a part of it. So i took your advice and kindly offered a link to local packs. i then found out that their leader apps were not approved so they likely would have left even if i wasn't trying to help out.
you are correct. unfortunately some people do not get along. i like to think i am very easy going and can make peace with most anybody, it is unfortunate when you are dealing with someone who is mentally ill. i dont say this in jest, i say from experience. i was dealing with someone who was admittedly bi-polar and schizophrenic. we talk about dealing with kids who have ADD/ADHD and all kinds of other initials for problems, but don't always take into account that some parents have the same issues.
because she was bi-polar, she would often stay up all night. this was a blessing at first when she would show up having planned events, den meetings etc. granted we thought she was as excited about the program as the rest of us were… it was a curse when she would call you in the wee hours of the morning with a complaint about what someone has said.
i am just glad to have people like you who are willing to help out when it may seem like you're the only one in the world who is having a problem in their unit.
