I’m am officially sick on the heat. Half of the show is my recent Scouting events and the other half is some interesting Scout news. And we end with gnomes!
I was talking to my new boss, the manager of our local National Scout Shop, about the posters that Chris was talking about….the "Pack 123 meets here" type of thing. She says, back when she was just a council shop (we just celebrated our 1st anniversary of being a national store) she used to order all that stuff. Supposedly it's what's called a "Bin item" and any professional or council level person has the ability to order this stuff. Being a National Employee, she doesn't have the place to get in there now, but she believes it's all still there. And she said that it's all free.
SO…. the question is, if it's there and it's Free…..why don't we have any?!?!?!?
Maybe someone with tighter council connections might be able to get in and answer the question. I'm not that tight with anyone right now (they're all strung out over popcorn and in "popcorn mode") what she said is (and I quote)
they are bin items available to Councils from National Distribution. Anyone with a national account can see a list of what is available.
There is a very LARGE line between the scout shop and council and she's very careful not to cross it. Let me know if anyone has any luck finding anything!!!

Yeah, and sometimes that line sucks. Our council built a new HQ closer to the geographic center of the council, and in doing so closed down a satellite service center / nat'l scout shop. The service center employees who worked there were moved to the new Scout Achievement Center. The national employees were let go, even though some had been there over a decade and had more experience than the employees from the national shop that is inside the council HQ (all those employees moved with the HQ into the new location). A lot of us were pretty unhappy to hear about that treatment those guys got – they were all very knowledgable (and helpful, friendly, courteous, kind…).

Very funny show Chris! I think I was as tired as you when I listened!
Our district chair asked at the last roundtable that each unit find 1 adult who is not already committed to a position at the unit level to participate at the District level for one event or "thing" ie cub family camp, Scouting for Food etc. the idea is that they don't have to come to every district meeting only for what they sign up for. Not a bad idea?
Gene Simmons school of Marketing indeed!!!
