Happy New Year! Tons on the show tonight, including lots of personal Scouting updates, Pinewood Derby news, Pasadena updates, some Innovation Engine items, and a very cool press release from national.
I'm starting to rethink my dislike for the PR folks at National. The Rose Parade float was incredible and now an Indy car. Maybe those folks really do have a clue about how to promote Scouting.

The key to success for the BSA is keeping a leader in charge and the managers at bay. Far too many times do great leaders and great managers get confused by the masses.
Management is the science of directing the present – Leadership is the art of envisioning the future
Management maintains the staus quo – Leadership brings about change.
Managers ensure that things run smoothly – Leaders see that things get stirred up.
Managers count things made – Leaders make things count.
Managers push people to produce – Leaders inspire others to excel.
Managers make short term profits – Leaders pursue long term goals.
Managers impose rules – Leaders provide examples.
Managers think about realities – Leaders are obsessed with possibilities.
I'm in Orange County Council, one of the three that helped with the parade. While I was not directly involved with the event, as a District Training Chair I was at our annual Council Top Hands planning meeting and got to hear our Council's Scouter that helped with the float. It was really neat to see how some many youth and adults got to be involved. She explained how the Cubs were to young to work on the float itself and it was the company that helped design and build the float that helped come up with the idea of the merit badge sheilds that the littler guys could help with. She brought one of them to the meeting and passed it around. It was a very cool thing to see.
