We Talked to the pack treasurer today and he is going to try to set up a time for us and the DE and himself  to get together and hash out whats going to happen to the pack.

Our thoughts on the whole thing is this. The Status Quo is doing a disservice to the boys and something needs to be done. in the Pack we have one scouter  who  has stepped up to lead the Tigers, even though her boy will be a wolf.  She has taken the youth protection but none of the other " leaders" have, besides us. if we move i would hate to see her be the only involved parent.

the treasurer( and only committee member, i was wrong about wife she is registered as a assistant den leader) wants to move on with his boys in boys scouts. and is already  the troops  treasurer and is looking at being a asst. scoutmaster. i don't blame him a bit.

Loved the duct tape comment  ( Red Green Rules!!!)

We will keep you updated. Thank you for your suggestions.

I took my new Cub Scout Leader Book to work an ran it through our big scanner/copier/printer. It scanned the whole thing into a PDF, that I then was able to put on my computer. A few weeks after I did that, I discovered national does in fact have it in PDF form for about $3.99. Oh well, I guess that would have been easier.

I'll be converting as many books as I can to PDF so I can have them on my laptop and load them on my Droid. It will be nice having them anywhere, especially district events and outings when the hard copies might not be available.

In response to what Ken said, I am so glad that all of the new books are in "loose" form…meaning that they are 3-hole-punched and ready to go into a binder. It makes it easy to scan them all and have the digital copy. Once I have the copy, I can just print off what I want, and hand that off to another leader. It really is a lot more cost effective than buying the whole book and not using it all, or worse yet, handing it to a leader, and they lose it or forget to turn it back in.

With some of my older Cub Scout Leader books, I cut off the binding and 3-hole punched them myself, just to send a couple of pages about a ceremony that I wanted to use.

On the pdf subject – while most/all are Boy (not Cub) related – check out: http://www.t413.org/downloads.cfm... for PDF versions of a bunch of BSA manuals. Great for printing or loading all up on an iPad.

Thanks for that link. I downloaded the color Scoutmaster's Handbook, a whopping 174MB. I ran it through full Adobe Acrobat's OCR and got it down to about 105 MB. Plus it's searchable now. I'll put it somewhere for DL if anyone wants it (and the CSLHB as well).

What's the expression, "one hand washes the other?" I'd love to get a copy – FYI I've used DropBox in the past for sharing larger resources.

Update…

well we had our unit and district commissioners  show up as well as the DE the last years treasurer  me and the wife and 2 other  parents.  i said my piece…  and they went on to set up a a committee. so we got 3 committee members

Chair

treasurer

advancements

they are going to talk to a parent who was talkiing about being a tiger leader  to try  being a cubmaster. or her husband  who is a eagle scout i do believe. she is a gold award GS. if we could get them both. we will have

a cubmaster

webelos 1

bear

wolf

tigers they hope to get a new parent involved like always.

our single webelos 2 scout  unless more come along will be with the webelos 1 group( i guess he wasn't there  much last year)

and they are talking about round up and such… and how we need to be there but we will have to sell as the big pack will be there as well.   ugh, I'm not a salesman by any stretch of the imagination. nontheless  ill be there for the pack if need be.

I've got a job for now…. not what i want, but around here now. i cant be picky. so for the time being we will be here. im not sure how my work schedule is going to work with scouts  but  I'm going to try.

to sum all this up  I'm not as hopeful as everyone else at the meeting, including my wife. I think we have a better start with a committee if people will show up. i just have a hard with the parents  so far… i hope and pray  I'm wrong  but I'm not going to believe it till i see it.  the whole merging the packs  was not even given a first though. i guess the other pack is now being reworked like ours…

over the years ive grown to be a pessimist but its savied me headache and heartache more then not. ill be happy  if im wrong…only time will tell.

sorry its so long and fragmented  trying not to let work get the better of me.
