Okay, we had our Blue-Gold on the 4th and I want to thank CM Chris for the inspiration. After years of hating "badges in a baggie", I wanted this BG to be more special for the Scouts. Having been a PTC follower for about 4 years and hearing how Chris rocked his Pack’s BG, I finally spoke up when we were initial planning our BG celebration and said we needed to do something "better that baggies". At the next leader meeting, I suggested the movie "UP" as a theme (I'm not that creative with things like this.). So, our BG theme was "Moving UP in Scouting". We had 4 helium balloons, 2 blue and two gold, and 1 non-helium balloon on each house. The non-helium balloons had the badges in them; Orange for Tigers, Red for Wolfs, Green for Bears light Blue for Webelos I and dark Blue for the Arrow of Lights for the Webelos II. You can’t tell very well from the photos, but the house is anchored by a Hershey’s mini with a homemade wrapper with the CS logo and the rank being awarded. (I had the idea, but all credit for implementation goes to our Tiger DL, Shannon – she did a much better job than I had envisioned.)
For those wondering, this was fairly simple to put together – biggest logistical issue was getting all the balloon sets to the venue.
The ceremony went great, the Scouts loved it, and the Boy Scouts there to receive the bridging Webelos were amazed and asked their Scoutmaster why they don’t do cool things at their Court’s of Honor. It has been talked about so much around our District that we are presenting the idea at Roundtable next month.
So, we want to give a huge Pack 1187 thank you to Cubmaster Chris for inspiring me to “Just Say No” to baggies of badges. I’m already thinking about next year and how to step it up.
