Greetings PTC listeners and hosts!
I haven't checked in here at PTC in a while as we've been in the middle of a move from Vienna, Austria to Germany. We've been living in temporary lodging (2 room hotel room on army post) for almost 2 months now and hope to be in an apartment in 2-3 weeks. Even though it's been pretty crazy with the move, Scouting is one area that we dove right into.
In August (3 days after we moved), the boys and I attended a week of Cub resident camp here in Germany. Good times! I was able to knock out a bunch of training that week and the trainer was A-MAZE-ING! His enthusiasm was infectious. Unfortunately, he's not in our area of Germany, so getting him to do training in our area would involve travel for him and probably lots of begging. Ha ha!!
Two weeks later our local area had a Twilight Camp. Our pack is a bit slow at getting started this year, so we haven't had any meetings, with the exception of the Web II's (one of my boys). Our first Pack meeting will be held next week and then we'll get started on our den meetings. I would have liked to have started our Bear Den meetings MUCH earlier than this, but den rosters weren't available and I couldn't seem to pull it together without having a den roster to work with. Being brand new here, I need to know something about the boys that will be in my den!
I was a Web I leader in Vienna last year, but will serve in our pack as a Bear Den leader this year. I have a VERY enthusiastic co-leader (also new to the area, and who I would LOVE to see serving as our Cubmaster, something we dreadfully do NOT have at the moment). I'm going to work on him and see if I can get him some training. I think he just needs some training and experience to be ready to jump in and be a great Cubmaster.
I'm also going to be serving the pack as the Outings Chair. I don't know why, but I always thought the job title was "Outdoor Chair," but I looked it up and Outings Chair it is. From the feedback I'm getting from the few Socuters I've met from this pack, this position needs to be filled and the Pack's outings and outdoor program needs to be beefed up. I know, I know . . . I'm double dipping. With the lack of volunteers right now, I don't mind. I'm excited about this position.
That's the news on this end. I'm looking forward to the new Scouting year and very anxious to get it started. Oh, and I have been keeping up with my PTC podcasts, I just haven't been taking the time to participate in the forums. I'm baaaaack! :)
