What would you put into a Blue & Gold "Scout Museum"? If you were going to educate the parents and boys to the history of Scouting, what items would you want at the Blue & Gold?

Examples: Tiger Cub Uniform (Orange Shirt), Lion (Pre-Webelos) Pins, Old Books

We have a local Scout Museum that I would probably contact.  For Cubs I'd DEFINITELY have uniforms!!  I'd also have some older merit badge patches & what not.  I wouldn't bother with books though.

can you just clarify the term "Blue and Gold"

Chris Meadows – ACC Explorers – Avon Scout County nn*10 bins, 4 planks of wood, 3m of rope and a river full of crocodiles. Sounds like a normal Thursday night.

Blue Gold is a banquet that Cub Scouts in the US have (usually in February) where the Pack gets together and has dinner.  Many Packs distribute rank advancements etc at BG and some bridge their Sr. Webelos to Boy Scouts at that time.  "Banquet" is a loose term and ranges from catered to pot-luck.

And Yes, I felt weird answering since my name isn't Chris or Kris!

Those are the colors of Cub Scouting….blue stands for truth and loyalty, yellow stands for happiness and good cheer. We use "Blue & Gold" as a general term for Cub Scouting. You may hear the term "Blue & Gold" Dinner and the like…

As for what I would put in the museum

1. The different editions of the leader's books…
2. Old Cub Scout camping gear, i.e., knives, mess kits
3. Flags…den and pack
4. Posters of the Promise and Law…the values have remained the same

That is what I have…so far

I would put in some pictures/stories/etc. on things the boys have done or achieved.  Their service during the war years selling liberty bonds, collecting scrap metal, etc.  Pictures of some of the more famous scouts and their accomplishments.  Old promotional posters are good for that kind of stuff.  (There's a really neat one I'd upload if we could do pdf files.)

When you're doing uniforms, don't forget the older leader uniforms like the old satin like dark blue "den mother" uniform shirts with the old style position patches, etc.

Since this sounds like a Pack event, how about including pics of leaders, parents, etc. when they were Scouts?

I don't know if this would really fit here or not, but what I always wanted to do when I was in the pack (but never got around to it) was something along the lines of “A Heritage of Scouting”, or something like that. Have different uniforms throughout the years (most of which are on eBay or with people in the pack). And have books throughout the years (they are all on eBay, real cheap). And if I could find them, pictures of Scout activities throughout the years (this one might have been a tough one, though). I wanted to lay these out in chronological order to show how Scouting has changed over time.

I also thought it would be a great idea to invite people of different ages to be there and talk about their Scouting experience, so it would be a living museum.

I wanted to do this to show that Scouting is something that isn't just a youth activity, it's something that is handed down from generation to generation. For me personally, my dad was a Cub Scout, I was a Cub Scout, and both of my sons were Cub Scouts. I thought it would be a great idea to show this.

I'd get a bunch of the old Norman Rockwell pictures and hang them around the room.
