OK Chris – i hope this was a recent show i listened to. You had asked if dens had snacks at their meetings. if so – what time do they meet.
our pack used to sell pizza with a drink for $2 each at each meeting. we meet at 6:30 on wednesday (all dens meet in the same time/place). we bought the $5 ready to go pizzas and made a bit every meeting. enough in the fall that we bought our PWD track since many were rushing to get from work/school to the meetings.
our pack grew by almost 60 this past week and we may have to cut it out if we dont find someone willing to take it over.

Pizza? Yuuuummy. I'm coming to your den meetings, Jeff.
When I did the den leader gig, we worked things precisely as BigMc mentioned. If the denner chose to bring a snack, he was responsible for doing so, though it wasn't required. We also met at 6:30 so snacks weren't really all that important. I think if dens meet immediately after school or smack in the middle of dinner time, it'd be a different story.
My only requirement was that the snacks stay "healthy" unless it was a special occasion, since I really didn't think parents would be especially thrilled if I sugered 'em up right before going home. The Webelos usually brought crackers or cheese sticks or something "instant" since I impressed upon them that it was their job to bring the snacks, not their mom's. Last year when I filled in for the Wolf leader, I made no such limitations and some of those moms went crazy making fancy pants snacks. (Seriously…? Swedish meatballs for a den meeting? Ohh, but those were the days…)
Honestly, snack time really was a good "wind down" activity for us since it required the boys sitting down and at least a little more quiet. It gave us a good routine, since the boys knew we'd do snack then closing ceremony, then they'd do cleanup and go home.
As for pack meetings and snacks, that ends up resting on the boys. We don't currently charge den dues but instead have a "Pack Snack Bucket". Each boy is asked to bring $1 to each pack meeting which he has earned himself and we provide Pack snacks for the next month with those funds. Some months we pull in more dollars than there are boys (uhh??) and other months we're lucky to bring in $3. As a result, it's usually feast or famine around the Pack meetings. As often as not, the boys get lemonade made from powder and not much else. We have found that snacks they make themselves as gathering activities keeps 'em coming early, so we try to do that when funds allow.
Another local pack I know of makes each pack meeting a potluck. Can you imagine? Ugh. I enjoy a good potluck as much as the next person, but I'd be tempted to quit Scouting altogether if I was forced to potluck every month. It obviously works for their pack, though. I guess since so many of the leaders work on the night of their Pack meeting, it affords them the chance actually eat dinner on those nights.

We meet at 6pm, and don't have snacks. If people started asking for them, I'd encourage one of the parents to create a sign up list. I love a good potluck, but I agree that a regular potluck would be a huge source of stress for me. My committee is encouraging a Potlluck for B&G this year as the economy is so tough… but that is another discussion.
As today is my birthday, I'm bringing cupcakes tonight to have my Tigers participate in my birthday celebration– hey, iit's the only celebration I'll have today. (I'm having a family dinner on Sunday night, so I'm not really complaining.) I thought about serving Hawaiian Punch too, but I thought that level of sugar rush as the boys headed out the door would be too much to inflict upon the other parents.
I have considered having each of the boys pick one special week near their biirthday or a holiday to make a snack in order to fulfill that Tiger Elective.

First of all, happy birthday. I hope you have a great day!
Second, "rAPK" – that is very funny! They should have a separate column on the Leader app for r's

Thanks Liberty and Jeff! I know my Tigers will probably sing a more enthusiastic Happy Birthday than anyone else. I believe I achieved the "r" status when I said, "Well, I guess I could help, if you are sure no one else is available." Lesson learned there!

That's the truth!
We did snacks as Tigers and as a treat as wolves and bears in our den. As a pack we do it occasionally but not as a rule. We did at this month's pack meeting as part of the popcorn kickoff (guess what the snack was?). We usually do concessions at Pinewood but other than that we don't regularly do snacks at pack meetings. Our pack meetings are at 7:00 PM.

Cupcakes, even hidden away in bags, where I thought they weren't visible, were a bit of a distraction to the Tigers. However, they did encourage the boys to wrap up their projects.

I have just listen to the Podcast about snacks
Although I work with the older section (Scouts) we don't have snacks as such there is always juice or water available if people want a drink.
However I have always found that food is an amazing motivator, if you set them tasks to win Marshmallows to toast on the fire later they all focus.
We also doing Blind Cooking – get a selection of Tinned goods, e.g. baked Beans, Pears in Syrup, hot dogs, peas, meatballs, then rip off all the labels and put them in a box the Scouts in patrols come and select tin in turn till each has 3-5 tins. Now open the tins to see what they have got and they then cook dinner with what they have.

I will never do snacks at a den meeting again! When I had Tigers we met after dinner and we didn't need snacks because the kids weren't hungry and everything went smoothly.
Then comes the Wolf years. I switched den meetings to right after school, at school. The kids were starving and begged for snacks. It took twenty minutes just to distribute, eat and clean up and we couldn't do anything because they were so preoccupied with snacks. It really ate (no pun intended) into our meeting time. Then there was the snack wars and one upping each other. I had parents sign up and bring a snack to every meeting. Bottles of water and a big bag of pretzels woked great for me. But then some mom brought pizza, then someone brought, a snack and a dessert, then someone wanted to make mac & cheese, etc, etc. It got way out of control.
This year we're Bears and I've returned to evening meetings without snacks. We have been so much more productive and there is no more headaches with me worring what was going to show up for a snack.
There was one night we ate popcorn and watched Disney's American Legends for the Tall Tales Achievement, but that's as far as I go these days.

After the Tiger year we discontinued snacks at meetings except for special occasions like when the boys fill the good conduct jar of marbles. When they do that (typically once a year, maybe twice) we'll have pizza or ice cream at the next meeting (or some other snack the boys decide on…within reason). Otherwise, no snacks, we don't have enough time at the Webelos level to do snacks in addition to opening, flags, two activities, cleanup and closing.

As a Lion Pride Leader, snacks are an important part of the meeting! Snack time gives the parents the time to ask questions about the program and other questions that might have come up. At 5 years old the boys LOVE to talk and snack time gives them that opportunity to talk about stuff off topic.
We also have snacks at our Pack Meetings. We pick a den that is responsible for bringing the food and the Refreshments Chair brings the bug juice & coffee and takes care of serving. Snacks aren't available until AFTER the closing ceremony so it then creates a kind of visiting time. The parents can talk to the CM or their DL or each other. It's like the meeting after the meeting. If they don't want to stay they either let the kids grab snacks to go or they scoot them out real quick and avoid it all together. For the most part, the families are real good about bringing non-sugar items….except for the December Pack meeting of course. We also have a Bake Auction in March, but that is the main item for the Pack Meeting.
