Draw String Backpacks…help needed

Hey all,

We have planned our Court of Honor for Feb 8th (hope that date sounds familiar) and I want to get the Scouts something special as it is also my one year anniversary as Scoutmaster.  I was thinking of getting each Scout one of those draw-string backpacks with the Troop logo and their name on the back (no missing bags or that's mine).  Makes a great travel bag for the car ride when all the gear is in the trailer.

If ClassB had them I wouldn't be asking this but does anyone have an idea of who to go to for these.  I've googled and come up with tons of options but I'm looking for a Scout-friendly place maybe a fellow PTCer has dealt with…

Thanks!

YIS

I've used Branders.com before for sutff for my church and also we are looking at them to possibly do some custom bags for our pack as a fundraiser (selling reusable grocery bags).

Also might suggest asking your DE who council uses for their promotional stuff, you may be able to get a good deal by going through them.  Or sometimes local shops that do those kind of things will give you good deals too.

Hmmm, you know, if you are any good with a sewing machine, you probably could make them up really fast with the new BSA fabric.  I'd have to check with MISS Kris the sewing Goddess and Guru, but the actual design of them is very, VERY easy.  One piece of fabric, grommets and some nice roping.

I also think that you could put a felt design in the center, or a large, oversized patch….  Wow, I'm feeling inspired.  Thanks Bryan for the idea!  However, that is perhaps more work than you were considering doing…  :)

That's a great idea Emily, except I have 118 registered Boy Scouts, so I need to get started ASAP if I am going to do that :)

Now if I can get some of my MISS to help out, it might not be so bad!!!

Now, when do you need them by? :) No, seriously, I couldn't do it, but I really think it wouldn't taken very long to make 'em.

It really depends on exactly what you're thinking.  I made a bag that sounds similar for my daughter.  The silly part is that the logo would be the part that takes the longest.

oh and….. 118 scouts?!?!?!?!  HOLY CRAP!

MISS Kris, found a pattern, but I still think we could make a pattern with fewer cuts.

And, as you pointed out to me, BSA cotton for quilts probably isn't durable and more expensive.

Here's the pattern.
