If some one wants to move this please do as it was aimed as all scouting from Beavers to Adult I thought it could start life here.

So come on tell us some of your funny scouting stories, the ones that make you really laugh and then wonder did that person really mean that.

Here is one of mine

About 11 years ago I was the International Camp Staff Member(ICSM) at the BSA Camp, Camp Long Lake in Wisconsin.

One of my roles as the ICSM was to give a weekly talk around the camp fire about the UK and about Scouting in the UK, I was probably on my 3rd week and things had been going great. Always had to explain the same thing that England is only one part of the UK and not a whole country, I was a scout from Wales at the time so people said "oh right Wales, England yes"

So I got to the end of my talk and I open the floor for questions couple of easy one then a Adult leader asked "Do you have the 4th July"

I responded with a chuckle " Yes it falls between the 3rd and the 5th" the lady was not amused I have to say, however I knew I was safe as the camp ranger almost fell off his seat trying not to laugh.

"No No No came the response do you celebrate it"

(at this point I can only hope that this person was asking for the sake of their scouts, however I am not so sureConfused)

"Umm No we don't celebrate it, we lost" I said

I quickly fielded another question about woggles and let this blow over but I have to say when I told the camp staff later we did laugh very hard.

I have been involved in scouting for 25 years there are plenty more stories like this oneLaugh

I was laughing before I got to your "snappy answers to stupid questions".  That's great.

Wow.  Um.  Seriously?

This was a great story. :) I don't think I have anything even close.

I did see a den leader telling the boys to put stuff away "the RIGHT way" without looking up from the books she was signing and one boy whispered to the other, "She must have eyes in the back of her forehead."

Most recently

We were on a hike, only a short one from our scout hut to a local scout campsite via the Chippy total distance about 5 miles.

we arrived at the chippy and got our dinner and as a troop we were sat on the grass opposite the chippy eating out fish and chips.

points to a tall building on the other side of the road and comment "I would not like to stay in that hotel"

Two points you need to realise here.

1) I do my scouting in one of the Richest parts of Bristol

2) the Chippy we were at was in a less affluent part of Bristol

the other scout leader and I look around and follow the accusing finger to see the young lad pointing at a block of flats "umm that is not a hotel, that is a block of flat"

"Ohh" said the young lad " looks like a poor hotel"

well he got mock a lot about being a snob and the fact that all tall buildings were hotels and it was decreed that from that point on he would be referred to a Tarquin.

I suppose this was funny at the time but looking back it does highlight that some of our young people in my group have no clue how the other half live. I think it is time for a cardboard box camp out.
