Wow. I just saw the scathing review of Around The Scouting Campfire that was left on iTunes. Plus, the reviewer left a one star (out of five) rating. Seems he does not like Buttons and finds him distracting. He also does not think the show contains much useful information.
I know the show does not contain much "hardcore" Boy Scouting information. It was never meant to be that type of show. Jerry and the others do a great job of creating those types of podcasts. I always thought of ATSC as more of an entertaining podcast with a Scouting theme. I began it because people seemed to want an audio version of some of the MSPP videos, and more of Buttons.
I realize that ATSC is a small time podcast and will never be very popular. In fact, only two of the shows ever reached 1000 hits within the first month. (#4 and #5) I never expect to be on par with Chris' AHAW. I do not plan to produce a weekly podcast like he does.
My podcasts do not generate much feedback so I guess this hit closer to home than it probably should. But… Is there too much of Buttons in the podcast? Should I concentrate more on the serious Scouting subjects? Is it time to retire the podcast? I guess I am now looking for some ideas as to the direction I should go.

Your niche is just fine, your show is just fine…
We all have detractors, so be it…let them come. The nice thing with listeners is just that…they are listeners. If they don't like it, move onto the next show…it's as simple as that.
What that reviewer left is only one person that didn't like it…I wouldn't worry about it.
I have recieved emails stating bad things about my show, and one from from a state senator of another state…how's that for criticism?
Regardless, Steve, keep on, keepin' on…most of us love Buttons, but some don't…don't let the nay-sayers influence you and ATSC…

Oh dear, your reviewer seems a little on the grumpy side! I seem to remember something about Scouting being fun…..
I wouldn't worry about one grumpy, poor review. The ATSC shows are fun and also have their serious points and that is great.
Keep up the good work the both(!) of you!

ATSC is an eclectic show, I will say that. Without knowing where it fits in could put it in a weird class by itself. That's taking myself out of the PTC Circle and I am in NO WAY defending the poster, just putting it into perspective.
BUT, at the same time, I will say that my scouts LOVE ATSC and they know nothing else about PTC. So I would say that maybe ATSC is an asset because it does cater to the younger set. AND, to that end, don't they say the best leaders are the ones that are in touch with their inner kid???
In all honesty, I haven't listened to it lately (crazy busy…I haven't listened to ANYTHING) but the ones I did listen to were great resources. A little info and a little entertainment. It's cool!
Keep up the GREAT work!!!! And stoke up that fire!!!
