dont know if anyone else has seen them – but my son got the brand new uniform shirt.

unlike the centennial shirt, this one does not have the pocket on the right arm and the Boy Scouts of America above the shirt pocket is back to being embroidered on. the other nice addition is the back flap which allows for better ventilation. plus, being microfiber, it is dry very quickly. son loves it – so i am happy.

I'm happy too because it probably means all the centennial shirts are about to be clearanced down to $5 each!

well i hope so too – this time, i will do what i should have done when the centennial shirts came out and buy the next few sizes up for the boy and a couple extras for me.

heck – good time for the troop to get in on the deal also and build up a uniform closet.

Yeah it seems like all the women's shirts (including the yellows) have been clearanced to the $5 – $7 range the last few months.

the more i think about it – a $5 shirt soon becomes more expensive…

theres 3.95 for the csp
1.50 for the world crest..
3 for the unit numerals..
then the knots… im paying more for patches than i am the shirt :)

at least i could use my wifes logic – "but it was on sale honey'

i also think we (as a troop ) should take that opportunity to buy some shirts and build more of a uniform locker.

Yeah, you put $30 worth of patches on a $5 shirt. But it's still better than putting $30 worth of patches on a $30 shirt!

and unfortunately – i am more nostalgic than thrifty as i keep all of the patches on my sons shirts over the years.

i still have my troop 246 shirt with first class rank and my den chief cords on it but only have my cub scout patches.

Heh I remember once getting a blazer on clearance at JC Penneys for like five bucks and thinking I need a new tie to come with it. The tie i liked was ten times as expensive LOL So I can see patches running up

Yeah, patches start to get expensive, even for an entry level Cub Scout uniform:

Den Numeral – $1.49
Quality Unit Award (optional) – $1.39
World Scouting Crest – $1.49
CSP – $1.99 to $5.55, depending upon council
Veteran Unit Strip (optional) – $1.29
Unit Numerals – $1.19 each

So for a brand new kid in our pack (Pack 19, 35-year veteran unit, 2010 quality unit award), the cost for the initial patches would be $11.54 just for patches. For an adult you'd have that same cost plus a leadership position patch ($2.50 – $5.00 depending upon the position), and any square knot awards. It starts to get expensive.
