Can anyone share a link or links to some really sharp pack sites. As 2010 rounds the corner, MOST of the cub sites I have visited look as they were coded 100 years ago. Truth be told, our pack as a weak one as well. Just looking for a spot light on some good ones.

I may show some bias, but we have a pretty good site that is free via Google Apps…www.pack4363.org.

It may not be flashy and what-not, but it's very fuctional, has a receptacle for files, calendars, 200 email addresses and secure pages so that only members of the pack may see any information about scout names…I actually have a full roster with names and addresses, but only members of Pack 4363 may see them. That is one thing, never, ever, expose a scout's name on the internet unless you have written permission from the parents, and even then, I would advise against it.

We had another site, http://www.pack4363.com, but I didn't have control of the DNS, only could update the content…

It was a nice, flashy site, but after looking at the stats, I found very little traffic to the fun parts….Mom and Dad only want to know the who's, what's, and when's…

Thanks for finding us, and welcome!

Although these are not just Cub Pack sites, but are Scout Group sites from the UK, these are some very nice ones. Hope you find them interesting -

You get the idea!

I think the thing with all Scouting sites is that they remain relevant. You may only need a site which has basic details on it, but if it's accurate and doesn't date, then that's fine.If you are doing one with lots of news on it, keep it up to date.

Oh and without wishing to sound too big headed, the last one is my own Group!

I like our website, it is really easy to use/maintain and is pretty slick:  http://scoutpack19.shutterfly.com

(It's also free, did I mention that?  Free is good!)

That is a nice site Scott.  I've tried Geocities (which is now gone) and Google, and am now using Scoutlander.  It's simple, and restricted to members only.

I am one of the admins on the site, yeah.  We have a pack historian whose job it is to upload pictures.  My job is trying to keep up with posting the upcoming events (and I think I'm behind on that as well, oops!).  Members of the pack can log in and see more content (like a contact list for every leader), and leaders can log in and get access to shared files like the roster, budget, etc.

The calendar feature is really nice and will send reminders to all the website members, but we've been relying more on the calendar through scouttrack.com for that kind of stuff.

Another personally biased post:  www.njpack83.org

Done with Wordpress but we utilize Google for calendar, pics and news feed. We also have a "mobile version" thanks to the WP Touch plugin. This is about our 3rd or 4th iteration in 5 years.  I've been toying with moving to an all Google (aka Sites) strategy for 1: easier to get multiple contributors, 2: $50/year for the hosting kills me as we're such a shoestring budget pack to begin with.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, especially Cub Dad who said it twice! :)

I'm not paid by Shutterfly but I'll gladly shill for them.  Accounts are either free or insanely cheap and the share sites (that's what they call them) are super customizable but is all very much WYSIWYG and just drag and drop, etc.  They offer it all for free because your site members can order prints of any of the pictures uploaded to the site and that's how they make their money.  Plus the no advertisements (other than Shutterfly's) is a huge plus.
