Okay, so I'm just wondering….does your district/council have a cub side to every event they put on?? Do you have ANY Boy Scout only activities??
The reason I ask is because our DE just decreed that (because of ONE noisy parent) that EVERY event planned by the district HAS to have a CS activity involved. I 100% disagree.

Yeah, that's dumb. Cubs at camporee's? Cubs at Merit Badge Challenges? What merit badge can a Cub Scout earn?
The point of having separate acitvities is both due to age appropriateness but also if the cubs can go to everything the boy scouts do then they have nothing to look forward to.
I think you should flip it on them and if it is going to be samey-samey, then the Boy Scouts should be able to compete in a district pinewood derby and every other event the cub have.
Is said noisy parent going to be the person who plans this CS activity for each event.
(Won't even get into the fact that a DE can't decree but jack and squat, those decisions are the authority of the District committee, not the district professionals. Just sayin'.)

Yeah, have the Cubscouts earn Leave No Trace after every event…;) There, it's clean and they are involved. That nosey parent can be in charge!

Interesting idea…but yeah, I'm really not seeing how that would work.
It's nice to start seeing some parity in our district between boy scout and cub scout activities, though. They would do one day camp and a PWD per year and call it good, up until this past year. I guess someone turned the light on–because this year we've got partner-and-pal campouts, advancement day, a bike rodeo…they even made Jamboree on the Air a separate event from the Camporee so cubs could participate.
It's strange..but nice to see about the same number of district events for cubs and boy scouts. So I can see what they are trying to do–but having the events concurrently doesn't really sound like an ideal solution. Maybe that's the only way they think they can get enough volunteers?
Speaking of asking for volunteers: we live in the southern half of our district, and I think I've only seen 2 or 3 people from our area *ever* working a district level cub event (unless, say, they go to church in the northern half and know someone from that.) I think they just don't know how to ask the people on this side of broadway. :D

There is room for all kinds of events…Cub-only events, Boy Scout-only events, Venturing-only events. But there is also room for joint-events, and for some knucklehead DE to decree anything is just, well, stupid. Let's see if that DE is going to be the one in charge of it all.
I will bet dollars to doughnuts that they won't. Take it to the district or council committee and see what they say. If they are in agreement, then there are bigger issues than just one mis-guided DE.

I can see what the DE is trying to accomplish, but I completely disagree with the decree. Many districts sponsor multiple events for the older Scouts, but tend to ignore activities for the Cub Scouts. Increasing the emphasis on events for Cub Scouts is a great idea, but the decree is the wrong way to accomplish it.
By the way, what does the District Committee have to say about this? After all, the district is run by the committee, not the DE.

I think your DE needs to grow a backbone.

Uh, what? They are separate programs and for the most part should be run separately. There can be opportunites to look for the Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts to have an event together but overall they are different types of events. The Cubs need to have something to look forward to in Boy Scouts and if they are already at Boy Scout events, that doesn't happen.
