This past Thursday (day of our pack meeting) one of our Wolf scouts lost his Dad in a car accident.  We had a prayer and moment of silence at the pack meeting. We are going to send flowers from the pack for the services. The young man will be going to live with his mother an hour away. The other scouts are upset and sad as well. This Dad was a good friend and father. I don't know how to go from here…..I know that if the boys ask questions we (parents too) that we will talk about it but other than this I don't know what to do.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thank you to thoses of you who sent me messages on facebook on Thursday. It really ment alot to me that my scouting family was there when they were needed. Cry

I'm very sorry to hear that… And I'm hard pressed to come up with any sure-fire advice. The closest experience I can call upon is my wife having to deliver a still-born child a couple of years ago. I rememeber not what the other Pack families said. I just remember them just "being there". That helped.

I do know that it puts a lot of our normal, mundane griefs in perspective as we are reminded to count our blessings… and that we do not have to look far to find them. Just need to be reminded of them from time to time.

very sad to hear. i would say to have someone invite him to future events with the pack. it would be a big change losing a parent and having to move away from many current friends, and i would think that might help a little bit. being that far away, they may not show up to another event, but that may offer a bit of comfort.
