Hello All,

Haven't posted a weird one in while, so here I go.

I have a new Tiger Den leader who has been conducting his meetings and attending Pack meetings in his old Eagle Scout uniform.    I'm personally amazed it still fits.   I don't about the rest of you guys, but i've let myself go since high school… and would need to be double-dog dared into trying on clothes from that era.

Tonight, I was advised by our COR that he should not be wearing his Eagle emblem over the age of 18…  and that it is to be replaced by a knot.

I know basically nothing of this etiquette as my youth scouting career stalled out in the cubs.   What's the consensus on something like this?   Insist that they remove the patches (including old unit number and CSP)?  Or suggest that they get a new shirt?  He's obviously very proud of this achievement, as he was wearing the uniform at round up before he signed up for anything.   And the uniform is mint (has to be 10-15 years ago).

Thanks

John R.

The CR is correct.  After your new Tiger Leader turned 18, he should remove the Eagle rank patch (which signifies someone who has earned Eagle that is still a youth) and replace it with the Eagle knot (signifies an adult who earned Eagle as a youth).

That eagle knot is not a restricted item.  You have to physically go to the Scout shop to get it but you anyone can pick one up.  Perhaps picking one up for him and saying, "Hey, since you're a leader now the old Boy Scout rank patch has to go, they have this special knot patch that only Eagle scouts can wear as adults and I picked one up for you."

My Advancement Chair (new last year) is also an Eagle Scout and still wears his youth uniform shirt as well.  What's worse, at a district camporee he helped me with a campfire program for 900+ people and in one skit played a Cub Scout which included wearing a Youth Large cub scout uniform shirt.  It was a bit tight but it fit.

(I hate him.)

(Not really.) Wink
