Mrs. Nancy,
First I commend you for going out to do Scout Sunday on the first year of your pack's organization. I have been involved in my pack for the past 5 years and today was the first time we went and the first time the local Catholic church organized something for us. We also had one of our local Troops come out to meet with us as well as another local pack. We had great turnout.
The Father made a point to recognize our group and the Anniversary of scouting to the congregation both before and after the service and then we took some photos in front of the church with the Father and then under a stained glass window that was donated to the church by Boy Scouts a long time ago.
After the mass, the Scoutmaster of the Troop that attended and I were talking and he said that it was so much easier when he was a scout because the CO was a church, and everyone was able to earn their religious emblems and go to Scout Sundays and so forth. But he said it has become so much harder these days because so many of the boys go to their own congregations. I think that might be the case for so many other units too. I would like to see a better turn out for this and a more organized Scout Sunday event in my area too.

My pack and troop partner together to help on Scout Sunday. We do a flag ceremony (led by the Boy Scouts in red berets, white gloves, followed by the Cubs), usher and collect the offering. Generally, there will be a talk by someone from the pack or troop about what Scouting has meant to them and also thanking our Chartered Org for their assistance. It's nothing fancy, but the boys seem to enjoy it.

Our CO is our town church. While they appreciate the work we are doing as Scouts and Scouters the relationship isn't much more than a signature on the charter. A few years ago (after a few years of nagging) we were able to get a Scout Sunday mass together. Since then the traditional dates for Scout Sunday have been overlapping with the Archbishop's Annual Appeal (like sweeps-weeks for donations for Church and diocese) so we were repeatedly getting brushed aside. The past 2 years instead of attending our chartering church the Pack has gone to a mass at the cathedral instead for religious awards presentations by the Bishop. It's a nice ceremony but there's always a part of me that feels like we should be "home" instead.
