Just sharing tonight's war story… :)

Last year, I did the shaving cream pies in my face for our fundraiser's top sellers (about 3 or 4 scouts).   It went well, but the boys that didn't top-sell were bummed that they didn't get to participate.   So they ended up volunteering to put pies in each other's faces…  which the parents approved of (but probably later regretted as it was pretty obnoxious)

I know I could/should have channelled that into the incentive to sell more and be a top seller for next (the current) year.   But I tried to mix things up.  Going quantity over quality.    I promised to let ALL sellers put pies in my face…  figuring that the increased total participation might boost sales.

Well, I did have probably the highest participation ever.   I think 90% of the boys sold something in our two fundraisers.   Well, 25 pies later (even let a handfull of siblings get in on it)… my face is red like I fell asleep on the beach face up.   OUCH.   I used a Foamy name-brand for sensitive skin, even.

I think I'll either go back to the original plan, or go to Reddi Whip for next year.  I think I'd put up with the spoiled milk smell over this.

How many pies do you you usually catch, CM Chris?

Ew… sensitive skin = not good with shaving cream.  Especially anything perfumey.  You might try (prior to the pie throw) an unscented brand so you can dab it on your skin and see if you have a reaction.  Otherwise, you can protect your skin a little before the event by putting a thin layer of something like vaseline (if you're not allergic! again, test first!) to insulate your skin from the shaving cream.  OF course, then you'll have oily skin… but…

The big thing with the real Whipped Cream is that it doesn't "hold" the foam.  It goes very flat very fast, especially if it's at all warm (over 65 degrees).  That's not a huge issue, except that you can't premake lots of "pies" – you have to only make a few at a time because otherwise you just have liquid.

I'll take the red skin over the spoiled milk smell any day.

The most I've ever caught was 24.

I've done both whipped creme and shaving creme. MISS Liberty is right. Whipped creme doesn't hold up for more than a few seconds, then begins to melt and lose body. And the smell is hard to get rid of for a few days, especially in your clothes. And if you're married to someone lactose intolerant… well, no staying in the house for you.

You didn't say you were red from being irritated, so I'm going to take the opposite approach from the current responses. The best thing to do is use paper plates and shaving creme. Then explain to the boys that it's more about placement of the hit instead of the force they throw with. I've ended up with cuts, a bloody nose, and… um… well, let's just say after year two there was a new "above the belt" rule. But over the years, I've basically explained that the harder they throw, the less chance they have of all of the creme staying on me. So a lot of the boys "place" the pie on my face instead of trying to kill me.

Howdy Chris,

Yeah, it was actually redness from irritation.  Even though it was a "sensative skin" foam (and I do not consider myself to have sensative skin), it must have still had a pretty high alcohol content.   I think I made it worse by rubbing off most of the previous pie, before the next one was "applied".

Basically, I had what was the equivalent of a bad sunburn.  Nose & Cheeks peeling… and back to normal after 1 week.

I think next year, I'll offer up a squirt gun firing squad, or something less caustic.
