I look forward to listening to this one. I staffed many camporees and other council events, and was the chairman for our Spring Camporee several years ago. (WOW, 15 years ago now that I think about it.)

Good stuff. I remember planning the camporee, and staffing any event. There's a lot of work to be done, but "many hands make light work" is very true in a district or council event.

Recruit people you know you can count on, and recruit them for jobs that suit them. Then, once the plan is made, let them loose. You'll have a great event, but the key is to have the right people with you.

Second, as Cubmaster Chris always says, "Always have a Plan B." This is for ANY event, pack or troop meeting, district event, training class, anything.

My own advice along those lines is, "They don't know how it was supposed to be." If you can improvise and seamlessly execute your plan B, no matter what snag comes up, no one will ever know. No matter how well planned your event is, something will not go right. The important thing is not what didn't happen right, but how you react to it.

Thanks for the great shows.

I love that Ken! "they don't know how it was supposed to be" That's awesome and sooooo true! Being a perfectionist I always hate that it doesn't come off just like I planned but I never do the tantrum thing until I'm in the privacy of my own home w/hubby who watches and when I'm done says "But the boys had a GREAT time!" and I know he's right. I'm actually getting better at this!

One thing that I'm not sure we mentioned….never underestimate the weather! I planned an event and had to step away from it but thought I had everything planned for the incoming organizer but I had forgotten to take into account the weather. It rained earlier in the day and she panicked and told callers it was cancelled before realizing that there were some that hadn't called and showed up….including the tour guide! Make sure you plan on the weather just like you'd plan on another person!!!
