So what if PTC Media says they are sponsoring (not paying for) a Memorial or Labor Day Weekend campout near Mt. Rushmore? Who would be interested?

Is there even a major airport near Mt. Rushmore?  It sounds like much fun, but I'd have to fly 'cause little ol' me can't drive that whole way by myself.

And is this boy scout camping or cub scout camping?

I'm interested but I'm not sure it's in the budget THIS year.  I am still trying to scrape together $4,000 for the 2 boys to go to Philmont.  They are committed so we sorta have to make that the priority.  But I'd LOVE to go!!!!

Rapid City, SD is the nearest airport.

I like the idea!  After Chris' tweet about it yesterday I started looking at stuff relating to it and the Black Hills Area Council has a reservation near Mt. Rushmore and it looks like they have a deal set up with the National Park Service where Scout groups can handle the flag lowering each evening.  I think it's a neat idea.

The only concern I had was whether it would be just Scouters or open to the whole family.  If it's the whole family it would be easier to get people to show up I think, but for many people both Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend fall during the school year, making a trip of great distance kind of difficult.

Okay, if Kris isn't going, I'm taking my tinker toys up to New York to see her. (Crossing my fingers that Kris doesn't flee when I show up on her doorstep.) I'm not gonna go without the all the MISSes. :D   Miss Kris, I won't have a kiddo with me, so you could be mine!

Mr. CM Chris and various and suntry PTC officials, is it possible to pick a NON holiday weekend?  I'd rather use a couple vacation days and get cheaper airfare,  rental car rates, etc. Here in Jo-ja, school is out the week before Memorial Day, but has been in session for a month before Labor Day.  Scott is right– most famlies are going to be in school for at least one of those 2 holiday weekends, if not both.

Lastly, it is unlikely that any “central” location is really going to be that central.  Shawn and Sonia still live close to 1000 miles from there, and Green Bay looks way closer on a map to South Dakota than any state in Dixie. From the pratical sense, would it be better to pick a historic American camping location that was convienent enough to a larger metropolitan aream, which allows for easier travel?  Rapid City doesn't look on a map like a substantial airport.

All of my rambling thoughts aside, it sounds fun.  I'll go along with the group's ideas, and try my best to get myself there.

It appears with the meetups that took place that Jambo 2010 was the first PTC Media campout! :)

Will there be a PTC meetup at World Jambo in Sweden next year?

I would go….to a PTCMEDIA Meet-up. Maybe Philmont….
Would love to go to Sweden, but I suspect Japan in 2019.

Philmont! Philmont! Philmont!

I couldn't make it to Sweden, I'm afraid.  Not unless I won the lottery.  Japan 2019… hm… interesting thought… I think I might be dead by then, though, right? That's WAY far in the future.  Maybe my grandkids could go?  OK… no, not THAT far in the future. :)  (though… I spose I COULD have grandkids by then… wow…)

I am actually looking at the Woodbadge Refresher and Strictly for Cubmasters….

I think it would be very interesting to see if the PTCMEDIA Universe who have gone to Wood Badge, would go to the refresher course? (maybe a whole new thread?)

Also, Japan 2019 is on my horizon at this time since I am wanting to get the International Leader Knot……yes, I like Leader Knots….;) (Maybe a Leader Knot Thread)

I'm probably going to have to skip Sweden 2011 because I won't have any kids old enough to go. But Japan is a definite possibility, it would be very cool to do that.

Philmont would be awesome but I just don't see it on the horizon for the next few years. Honestly, if I can get in shape and make it out there as a trek with a Troop or Crew, it probably will never happen for me since I'm about a 4 hour drive from the Summit site which will have it's own Leader training center like Philmont's.

Why are we skipping Jambo 2013?? I have a feeling there's going to be a large concentration of PTC friends at The Summit!!! I know I'll be there!
