We have a Troop Physical:
Once a year (April/May) we have several Doctors volunteer and we have stations set up on a meeting night. Each Patrol comes in at a certain time and go through the stations:
1. Scoutmaster: meet with me and the CC…we talk for a moment, check up with them, hand out QU Patch and BSA ID Card
2. Uniform Inspection: go over with the Scout that he is ready if the SPL calls for a uniform inspection (also helps us focus on Scouts in need and get them to the Uniform Bank)
3. Troop Photo: we have a photo of every Scout and Scouter for the Troop Photo Rosters
4. Physical: they actually meet with the Doc and get the BSA Physical filled out. While not a replacement for their regular physicals, we have caught some things for our adults and Scouts that they followed up on with their Doctors
5. Advancement/Summer Camp: the Chair meet with Adults and Scout to make sure they are signed up for Camp and how they are doing with advancement
6. Treasurers: adults who have Scout Account questions or financial needs can meet privately with the Troop Treasurers
7. Check Out: all the forms (BSA Med and Release Form and Copies of Insurance Card) are collected and checked and stored in the Trip Books.
This is the ONLY way to do it in a Troop my size, and I would recommend it to any sized Troop. We get 98% of the forms and answer many questions and talk to almost EVERY Scout in one long night. Time for Scout is about 45 minutes….we go from 5:30 – 8:30 and get about 140 Physicals done every year :)
