Lionel announced that they are releasing the UP 2010 BSA locomotive – http://www.lionel.com/CentralS…..newsID=181 .  Sounds like Steve might have some shopping to do.

While I do like model trains, I have not owned one since I was a kid. I have no room in the house to set one up. Too much Scouting, Star Wars, and D&D stuff around here. (Yeah, I am a nerd)

Has anyone contacted George Lucas about a 100th anniversary X-Wing?

OK this has been driving me nutso since I listened to the show – on the coin, it's actually a Venturing Scout, not an Explorer (the girl on the coin.)  Just saying. :)  I know, not a big deal, but it itched at me so I figured I'd say it.

Also, and I'm not sure this quite counts as "National" events, we actually went to the Northern California Jamboree which was an amazing 100th Anniversary celebration which included Scouts and Scouters primarily regionally, though we did have quite a few from out of area visiting.

My favorite part was the historical aspect of the event, including several historical displays and activities, as well as the presense of Daniel Beard, James E. West, and William D. Boyce!

All the rest of the 100th Anniversary events I know of have been much more local, but I figured I'd mention our Jamboree, even if it wasn't specifically a "national" event.
