Another great show, and being a Cub Scout leader now it was very relevant for me.

We don't have a lot of Den Chiefs working with our dens, but I really don't know why that is.  I've been told that "no one wanted to do it" but I don't think that's entierly the case.  I think it's a conbination of factors, from the pack not asking, to the SPL/PLC not using the Den Cheif role as a leadership opportunity and in stead focusing on the positions in the troop.  Or, frankly, it may just not be a priority for the troop, and I fear that could be adult driven, which not only is bad for the program, but more difficult to overcome.

I'm going to listen again and take notes to use then approaching the subject again.  Thanks for the great information.

Great Timing!

Earlier this week, I was discussing the need for a Den Chief for my Tiger Den with our local Scout Master.  My Den has grown from 4 Tigers in September to 10 as of Monday.  Most of the Parents have no understanding of scouting or speak english very well. I spend more time attempting to communicate with the Parents than helping the scouts with activities. 

Adding 4 new Tigers in the last 2 weeks a lone has put a crimp in my den schedule. A Den Chief will help me keep the Tigers on track with their activities and help the new Tigers get up to speed on earning their Bobcat and hopefully Tiger Badge before cross over.
