Scout Nation
About The Show
Scout Nation is a term that covers listeners from all over the world. One day, a weird tweet went out, which was followed with an email, which prompted a phone call. Combine that with a couple of Skype calls, and an idea was born…Not to take away from any other shows, we thought about having discussions that focus on what works for us…
We hope to have monthly guests, who can help offer insight, thoughts and ideas on what makes their units work. We will also have discussions on Troop SOPs, troop size, recruiting, and any other topics that come up.
About The Hosts
Bryan: I have been in Scouting since my Mom dropped me off at a Cub Scout meeting as a Bobcat and left after I earned my Eagle Scout at 17 years 13 months
I rejoined Scouting years later when my son became a Tiger Scout. Since then I have been a Den Leader, a Webelos Leader, a Troop Committee Member, and an Assistant Scoutmaster. In March of 2008 I was asked to be the Scoutmaster of my son’s Troop, I accepted and have been going full bore every since.
I believe in Scouting and love the program. I firmly believe in the Scout-Led Troop and enjoy training the guys and then watching them grow.
I am honored to be asked to join PTC and hope you enjoy listening to me as much as I enjoy talking

Scoutmaster Shawn: I am going into my 8th year of scouting. In that time, I have been a Den Leader, Cubmaster, Committee Chair, District Training Chair, Unit Commissioner. My current position is Scoutmaster with Troop 1363 and Pack Trainer with Pack 4363.
I love the program, and have a passion for scouting that my wife thinks is a bit “obsessive”…but I have seen firsthand the maturation of my sons, and what the scouting program has done for both of them.
Being a part of PTC is an honor, and I am glad to start this new venture with another great scouter!

It’s been a long time, due to being busy and a lot of technical difficulties on the part of Scoutmaster Shawn…yea, you would think that I would know how to do this…
Regardless, Bryan and I talked a lot about Woodbadge and some other great troop items. Plus the amazing story of Scouter Jeff.

Sorry for the delay, scouters…life caught up with the Scoutmasters and they didn’t have the time to record a show.
Finally, the schedules cleared, and we were able to sit down and record a long show about things going on in the troop and we were able to talk about the new Scout Nation Fit Club…
This show was brought to you by The Scoutmaster’s Other Handbook
We answer a post from Ken in the PTC forums about the PLC and our different experiences with it. Also, per usual, troop news, with a little lesson on Fire Safety.

In this meeting, we talk about the new crossovers, some troop news, and feedback on our chatroom session. Thanks for listening.
Scoutmasters Bryan and Shawn talk about the parents who hover, get underfoot, and just may not understand the differences between the Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs…they affectionately refer to them as “helicopter parents”…
A new PTC Media show…a practical look at everyday operations of Boy Scout troops. Anyone can podcast about what the book says, but Scoutmasters Bryan and Shawn talk about the things that makes their units work, things that don’t, and things that haven’t been tried yet.
